(Cleveland, Mississippi) — Art lovers, creative explorers, and curious beginners are invited to unleash their inner artist at Delta Arts Alliance’s latest hands-on workshop: Impatient Impressionism: Impressionist Sponge Painting. The event will be held on Sunday, July 13, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Delta Arts Alliance in Cleveland, Mississippi.
This vibrant and interactive experience will be led by Geoffrey Latham, Art Program Coordinator at ýapp, and promises an afternoon of creative exploration rooted in the iconic brushstrokes and bold palettes of the Impressionist movement—but with a twist. Instead of traditional brushes, participants will use custom-cut sponges to apply paint, mimicking the signature textures and strokes made famous by artists like Monet, Renoir, and Degas.
Designed for all skill levels, the workshop kicks off with a short demonstration by Latham before attendees are set free to experiment and create their own unique masterpieces. Whether you're an experienced painter or picking up a sponge for the first time, this playful approach removes pressure and emphasizes creativity, movement, and fun.
“No art background is required for this workshop,” said Latham. “We’re creating a welcoming space where people can loosen up, take creative risks, and rediscover the joy of making something with their hands. The process is freeing, expressive, and a bit messy—but that’s what makes it memorable.”
Participants will wrap up the workshop with a lively mini-gallery walk, celebrating each other’s artwork in a positive, supportive setting full of laughter, inspiration, and plenty of “ooohs” and “ahhhs.”
The cost to participate is $30 for Delta Arts Alliance members and $40 for non-members, with all materials provided. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
